We appreciate Ky State Police Troopers Gayheart, Sturgill and Watts for patrolling and visiting Burdine Elementary and Jenkins Middle High School. They are becoming frequent visitors and we love that our students enjoy and engage with them and our own SRO Chief Alisha Congleton. We also appreciate Jenkins PD for regular patrols and visits to our schools. Chief Congleton and Kentucky State Police thoroughly investigate all reported threats of school violence regardless of context or intent. KSP collaborates with local law enforcement officers and school administration personnel to provide a safe environment for students so they can focus on furthering their education while at school. Troopers urge parents to have a conversation with their children about the dangers and consequences of posting threatening messages on social media or online. Troopers also ask parents to speak with their children about reporting any concerning information they may come across on social media or online to an adult. According to Kentucky Revised Statue, threats of violence directed towards a school is Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree, which is a Class C Felony. Furthermore, a Class C Felony is a serious crime that can carry a punishment of up to 5 to 10 years in prison. It is so important for students to understand the seriousness and consequences of such actions.
