Anyone interested in Jenkins Archery, needs to stop by Mrs. Fields' Room 120 at JMHS to pick up fundraiser packets by Sept. 23, 2020. We must have funds to be able to participate in the archery meets. Since COVID has restricted most of our fundraising opportunities, we need to raise funds quickly and greatly. This fundraiser was easy and beneficial last year. We will begin practice on Sept. 29, 2020 at 3:30 pm. We must practice social distancing, face masks are required, and all practices will be closed due to safety issues (both COVID and NASP regulations). Practices will be staggered in order to ensure that we are meeting health requirements, so the practice schedule will be altered due to number of participants. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Candy Fields at (606) 832-2184 or (606) 821-8289.

A reminder that the first day of school is tomorrow, Monday, August 31st. While we had hoped to start school with a number of our students in person, unfortunately circumstances beyond our control have made that impossible. District leadership has listened to your feedback. We have worked long and hard to prepare a plan that delivers instruction every day. We have sent devices home to those that requested them. We will be sending USB drives home weekly with all instructional videos and assignments for our students who do not have internet access. Please understand that although we have tried to plan for every contingency, there will be bumps in the road and adjustments will have to be made. We ask for your patience when problems arise and give us a chance to work through them with you. Virtual learning cannot be successful unless your student is engaged in the learning process. Learning at home can be stressful and taxing. With that in mind, we'd like to share the following with you:
Six R's for Less Stress Virtual Learning, from the Prevention Action Alliance.
Realistic Expectations: This is a key starting point. Set your standards high but be sure to give yourself and your children grace along the way. Don’t strive for perfection, be too intense, or over-schedule. Simply do your best as you step into this type of teaching role while encouraging your child to do the same.
Requirements: Be clear on what is required of your child weekly and daily. Monitor their ability to comprehend the task at hand and complete the assignment. Depending on your individual child, your necessary level of involvement will vary—which means potentially more work and more stress for some families than others.
Rules: Create rules surrounding time for work and play. Many families find that it works best to get the schoolwork completed first, then have the rest of the day for play.
Routine: If your child’s school requires them to be on live sessions, that will determine their schedule to some degree. However, it is up to you and your child to come up with a routine that fits best—then stick to it.
Relief: This comes in the form of self-care for you and for your child so that you can be in the best frame of mind to be helpful, and your child can be in the best frame of mind to continue learning. It’s essential that all parties involved are getting enough sleep, eating well-balanced diets, getting exercise, and making time to relax.
Resources: Check first with your child’s school to see what they have to offer, then go online as there are endless free resources to help with virtual learning.
We're excited to get school started and can't wait until we can see each and every one of you in person!
